01 first of all, congratulations! tell me about Pax Royale, how did it all started and if should we expect more from it. we’re all curious
Thank you! Pax Royale was founded about a year ago, late 2005/early 2006 if I remember it right. I spoke to a very talented dutch producer, named Maarten Hercules, and we traded some ideas. He sent me some parts for a track, and I loved it but I ended up re-doing it into something different. I asked my british friend David Hughes to throw in some small vocals that would go with the theme of the track and voila, we had a first tune. Soon after signing it we got great radioplay on Trance Around The World by Above & Beyond as well as having Judge Jules playing it on BBC Radio 1. Personally I feel it’s one of the best songs I’ve ever been part of doing so I’m very happy with the release as well as the relationship we have to our label Fraction Records (run by Signalrunners). At the moment we’re working on a follow-up, so there will definetly be more of Pax Royale in the future.
02 any desired future featurings?
I haven’t worked with a great deal of people yet, but the few times I’ve had it’s been fun. I’m working on doing more collaborations at the moment. It would be fun to work with Airwave, always loved his music and found him as an inspiration source. And to work with Ben Gibbard (of Postal Service & Death Cab For Cutie) or Erland Öye (of Kings of Convenience) would be a dream to me!
03 what’s your favourite personal project anyway? JPL? LNQ? Ljungqvist?
I’m pretty proud with all of these projects. Mainreason I have different names are for different directions taken with them. Alot of the tracks I’ve made under the different names are close to my heart so I think they are all as importnant to me.
04 you seem to have a very large music culture. what do you listen to besides electronic music?
Yeah, there’s so much good music. Basicly, whatever I found good goes into my ear. But alot of indie, especially indierock/pop. Bands and artists like Whitest Boy Alive, The Postal Service, The Hidden Cameras, Regina Spektor to name a few. I also love classical music whenever I’m in the need for it. Listen to a variety of music, it’s good for you!
05 what are the big plans for you this year?
Well, I’d love to build myself as an artist and DJ more.
It’s been alot of fun so far, and it will still be but I’m trying to get into the business part of it all more as well.
I also want to get more active as a DJ and get to play out, at the moment gigs aren’t flying in. For the rest, I’m working on an album which isn’t going to be trance but more electropop and indie, so I hope that will be swell. But also continue to push with my tranceprojects, that’s what I do to stay alive and breathing. So I hope I will see more of everyone this year!

Hope that’s good enough mate

Joni
